As we get older, our risk of developing heart health problems related to our lifestyle tends to increase. The sooner we act and do something about it, the more years we are likely to experience free from disease and disability.

HeartAge is a free online platform to help people understand their heart health and how lifestyle factors can affect it. HeartAge is based on established science behind the risk factor scores widely used by healthcare professionals.

HeartAge asks a few questions about your health and lifestyle and uses this information to calculate how old your heart is. Comparing your heart age to your real age gives you an understanding on how healthy your heart is, and for those whose heart age is greater than their true age, HeartAge provides help and advice on how to improve it. By making some changes, such as improving your weight or becoming more physically active you can reduce your Heart Age. It’s even possible to have a heart age younger than your actual age!

Someone’s heart age is the age at which their estimated risk for developing cardio vascular disease (CVD) would be considered normal. For example a 55 year old man with normal risk factors would have a 10% risk of CVD, a 40 year old man with a 10% risk of CVD would have a heart age of 55, 15 years older than his real age.

Andy’s story

Actual Age 51, HeartAge 56

"I like to think I’m in pretty good shape for my age. I used to play a lot of sport and now have a very active job.

"When I took the HeartAge test and found out that my HeartAge is 56 it was a shock. I look at my own father who is training for a marathon in his late seventies, that’s the kind of role model I want to be for my own kids. So I’ve started making some changes to my diet and lifestyle – it's already making a difference."
