Green Exercise is any casual physical activity that takes place outdoors: from gardening, cycling and walking in urban green areas, to kite flying and conservation projects in the countryside.
Did you know that people who live close to a park are more likely to lead active lives and less likely to be overweight. Outdoor activity in natural spaces can relieve stress, help us relax and help lift our mood. Green spaces are free and open to everyone: our parks, woodlands and countryside, even our tree lined streets are a major resource that can help you and your family keep active.
Shropshire has a wealth of beautiful countryside to enjoy whether it's by jogging, cycling, family outings to play in the park, volunteering with a conservation project or simply going for a walk.
Outdoor recreation aim to encourage and support participation in walking, riding, cycling and recreational activities from the countryside and from where you live. From using their website you can find information on where to walk, ride and cycle, long distance routes, park and countryside sites and play spaces.
There is also an opportunity for you to become involved in active volunteering, this is any type of voluntary work that involves a level of physical activity. This may, for example, be helping manage footpaths in the countryside, surveying wildlife in your local patch, or assisting schools in your area to lead their walking buses.
Volunteering is a great way of learning more about the work on nature reserves and meeting like minded people.
Volunteering makes a real difference to the work completed through enhancing Shropshire's biodiversity and beauty. Every year over 400 active volunteers contribute more than 7000 days work and this couldn't be done without them.
