Help2change offers a range of training courses designed to deliver the competence and confidence necessary to support lifestyle change, in line with current evidence of best practice. Help2Change can also provide bespoke training solutions to meet staff or other training and development needs.

NHS Health Check Afinion Point of Care Training
This face to face training supports candidates to confidently undertake Point of Care testing (PoC) with patients receiving an NHS Health Check. During the training, candidates observe and are observed carrying out PoC testing.
NHS Health Check Informatica online Training
These locally developed online videos support candidates who deliver NHS Health Checks in Shropshire to confidently use the Informatica function within the NHS Health Check programme.
NHS Health Check Health Mentor online Training
This e-learning course supports candidates delivering the NHS Health Check programme in Shropshire to meet their technical competence requirements. To access the online training, contact Help2Change.
Help2Slim Advisor Training
This face to face training supports candidates to deliver Help2Slim Adult weight management support. Delivered over one day, the course covers the multi-factorial nature of overweight and obesity and examines the role of nutrition and physical activity in managing the issue. Candidates are introduced to and offered the opportunity to practice motivational interviewing techniques to support behaviour change. The training includes a comprehensive overview of how to deliver the Help2Slim programme to eligible adults.
Diabetes Prevention Training
This face to face training supports candidates by underpinning existing knowledge and understanding of diabetes, diabetes prevention and how to support individuals living with pre-diabetes to manage their risk of Type 2 Diabetes.
The course explains diabetes, the role of insulin in regulating blood glucose level, glucose in the diet and the health consequences of the condition. Pre-diabetes is examined together with the importance of nutrition and physical activity in managing risk of progression to Type 2 diabetes. Content includes an explanation of the clinical measurements taken to diagnose diabetes and related health tests carried out.
Candidates can enhance the benefits of the course by undertaking the Behaviour Change (Effective Conversations) training.
National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) online training
This e-learning course enables candidates to demonstrate core knowledge and skills required to deliver effective Stop Smoking support. Completion is a pre-requisite requirement to the Help2Quit Advisor Training course for candidates wishing to deliver Help2Quit Stop smoking support. A number of NSCST e-learning courses are available including 'Very Brief Advice on Smoking' and 'Smoking cessation and Mental Health'. To view or complete the NCSCT course, visit www.ncsct.co.uk
Help2Quit Advisor Training
This face to face training supports candidates to deliver Help2Quit Stop Smoking support. Delivered over one day, the course explores smoking as a significant risk factor for a range of long-term conditions. It examines the addictive aspects of smoking as a lifestyle behaviour and the role of medication in supporting individuals to become non-smokers.
The course underpins existing knowledge and understanding of smoking as a lifestyle behaviour and the role of effective stop smoking support in reducing smoking related disease. Candidates are introduced to and offered the opportunity to practice motivational interviewing techniques to support behaviour change. The training includes a comprehensive overview of how to deliver the Help2Quit programme to eligible individuals.
Social Prescribing Advisor Training
This specialist face to face training is designed for Advisors delivering Social Prescribing support in Shropshire. The course introduces Social Prescribing as an effective support model, explains referral mechanisms and describes in detail the nature of support provided.
Candidates can enhance the benefits of the course by undertaking the Help2Change Behaviour Change training.
Healthy Conversations Training
This face to face training supports candidates to deliver brief opportunistic advice to those they support in their day to day role. The course brings together key Public Health insights and essential health messages and explains the principles of Making Every Contact Count (MECC).
The training supports candidates to confidently incorporate these within their role as an aid to effective signposting. Candidates are also introduced to basic behaviour change skills to enhance everyday contacts with those they support.
Using behaviour change skills training
This face to face training is designed for those who support clients beyond signposting and who will benefit from enhancing existing communication and listening skills through motivational interviewing. The evidence and theory behind effective behaviour change is explained.
Motivation, ambivalence as a barrier to change and resistance are all explored. Candidates are introduced to core skills to enhance client support and are introduced to social prescribing as an effective behavior change model.
During the course, candidates are given time to practise and gain confidence in using essential motivational interviewing skills.
